2027 Showdown: El-Rufai Declares Tinubu’s Re-election Bid ‘Impossible’, Slams APC’s Fading Popularity

In a bold political broadside, former Kaduna State Governor and ex-ally of President Bola Tinubu, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027 are “impossible,” citing growing national discontent and a sharp decline in support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

El-Rufai, now a prominent figure in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), made the remarks during an interview circulated on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. “Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria. It is impossible,” he said.

According to El-Rufai, Nigerians have lost faith in the APC due to what he described as failed economic and governance policies. “I don’t see a pathway for him [Tinubu],” he added, arguing that even a weak opposition could defeat the incumbent given the current public mood.

The comments come amid ongoing economic challenges and mixed government messaging about recovery prospects. Just a day earlier, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, maintained that the Tinubu administration is implementing policies to stabilize the economy.

However, El-Rufai dismissed recent defections to the APC as desperate moves by “greedy and hungry politicians” chasing contracts, political appointments, or evading investigations by anti-graft agencies such as the EFCC and ICPC.

“The 2027 elections will be between the APC and Nigerians,” El-Rufai stated emphatically, signaling a shift toward grassroots mobilization rather than elite political maneuvering.

Once a vocal supporter of Tinubu’s 2023 presidential bid, El-Rufai has since broken ranks and aligned with other prominent political figures—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State
