MAURITIUS – Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) has uncovered 1,799.7 grams of cannabis with an estimated street value of Rs 5.4 million during a raid in Baie-du-Tombeau, Mauritius, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The operation, led by Inspector Lepois and his team from the Abercrombie anti-drug brigade, took place at Morcellement La Cocheyle, where officers searched the residence of 23-year-old Krishi Cheyten Andony, who was absent at the time of the search.
In the presence of the suspect’s parents, officers discovered a suitcase in a prayer room that emitted a strong odour of cannabis upon being opened. Inside, they found a backpack containing 17 sealed and compressed packages of cannabis along with several plastic bags filled with the drug, all seemingly ready for distribution.
Further searches, supervised by Superintendent Azmee Rohomutally, led to the discovery of 29 cannabis pouliahs, a roll of aluminium foil used for wrapping them, additional packaging materials, and an electronic scale commonly used for weighing drugs. Officers also seized Rs 9,900 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Samples of the seized substances have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. Authorities believe the drugs may have originated abroad, potentially linked to trafficking between Thailand and Mauritius.
As of Wednesday afternoon, police efforts to locate Krishi Andony were ongoing.
