A 26-year-old Mauritian prison security officer, simply identified as Muhammad Zuhair Bhugel, has been nabbed for possession of drugs.
According to information, the officer who resides in the Goodlands area of the Island country was on Friday, June 6, 2025, at about 10:20 a.m. taken into Beau Bassin Central Prison after two dumplings wrapped in black nylon were discovered in his trouser pocket.
Following a further search of the prison security officer, two wrapped meatballs, 9.1 grams of dried leaves, a s all amount of white powder, and 15 psychotopic tablets were found with him.
It was also noted that during a search by the Anti-Druh Smuggling Unit ( ADSU ) into its locker room, two additional palettes, 40 cigarettes, and six SIM cards were found.
However, further investigation has been open to determine the exact circumstances of this case, which raises questions about the internal safety of correctional facilities.
As at time of this report, there is no official statement yet from the authorities about any complications or motives.
