A 29-year-old Nigerian national, simply identified as Udosen Thompson, finds himself in a nightmare that turns reality when he was denied re-entry into Mauritius despite official marriage with a Mauritian citizen.
According to information, Thompson had lived in Mauritius illegally from the year 2015-2025. During the years, he fell in love with a Mauritian woman , and the relationship gave birth to a daughter, now 7 years, and all lived in the Vacoa area of Mauritius.
When Thompson tried to regularize his status in Mauritius by marrying his partner legally, the Mauritian authorities denied the marriage due to his illegal status, and he was placed with administrative impasse. Due to this situation, he decided to go back to Nigeria in the month of May 2025 with his Mauritian partner and their daughter.
It was gathered that on May 19, 2025, they officially married at the popular Federal Marriage Registry in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
However, his fear turns reality when the new wedded couple arrives in Kenya and prepares to board the next flight to Mauritius, Udosen Thompson was denied boarding, while his wife and daughter were granted. It was affirmed that an Aeronautical Information Publication ( AIP ), a precautionary passenger alert, is still active against him.
In a statement by their lawyer, Mr. Sharma Bandhu is currently working to obtain a review of the case at the passport and immigration office. He maintained that Thompson is now a legal husband of a Mauritian woman and a father to a Mauritian child.
The lawyer, however, noted that the Nigerian national, Thompson, will not be able to return to Mauritius until the formal objection by the immigration is lifted.
The wife and the daughter have returned to Mauritius, while Thompson will be sent back to Nigeria from Kenya.
