6 Dead, 3 Missing as Nigerian Navy Gunboat Capsizes in Delta State
A naval gunboat carrying 15 individuals, including officers and civilians, capsized Thursday night in the Escravos waterways of Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, resulting in multiple fatalities and missing persons.
According to reports, six people have been confirmed dead, including a naval commander, two youth corps members attached to NNS Delta, Warri Naval Base, two naval personnel, and a civilian driver.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with three individuals — two naval officers and one female corps member — still missing as of the time of this report.
The incident has cast a somber mood over the naval community and sparked calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
