Coordinated police raids in Aba uncover a network of traffickers allegedly responsible for abducting and selling children across state lines.

The men of Nigerian police, Abia State Police Command has dismantled a large child trafficking network operating in Aba, rescuing 18 children and arresting 10 suspects connected to the illicit trade.

In a press statement released on Friday, October 10, 2025, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chinaka, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police (CP) Danladi Isa, confirmed the arrests and rescue operations, describing the development as a significant breakthrough in the Command’s fight against child trafficking in the region.

The suspects were identified as Mrs. Best Ndubusi (41) of Apaa Osokwa, Osisioma LGA; Charles Enyinnaya (25) of Umuogele Ovom, Aba South LGA; Eunice Ezekiel (35) of No. 1 Foursquare, Umukalika, Aba South LGA; Nnena Kalu (60) of Osisioma LGA; Gideon Esther (25) of Amalek by Amencha 7Up, Aba; Obiegbunam Von (65) of Aba; Ezeoma Rejoice (21) of Aba; Ngozi Owoh (20) of Aba; Favour Ernest (22) of Aba; and Brittney Oyemuwa Zion (22) of Amuoji Uku, Obingwa LGA.

How the Operation Unfolded: The operation began on September 27, 2025, when a woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, reported to the Ohuru Isimiri Police Division that she had been deceived by a man who lured her to Aba under the pretext of marriage and later disappeared with her two children after she stepped out to buy food.

Following credible intelligence, police officers launched a raid on October 8, 2025, arresting five suspects — Ndubusi, Enyinnaya, Ezekiel, Kalu, and Esther — and rescuing one infant and seven children.

A subsequent raid on October 9, 2025, along the Aba/Owerri Road, led to the arrest of four additional suspects — Von, Rejoice, Owoh, and Ernest — and the rescue of seven infants and three more children.

The following day, October 10, officers apprehended Brittney Oyemuwa Zion and recovered one additional child, bringing the total to 18 rescued minors.

Investigation and Public Appeal: The ongoing investigation, led by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), aims to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network and locate possible accomplices.

Commissioner Danladi Isa urged the public to visit the Gender Section of the SCID to help identify any missing or stolen children. He reiterated the police command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of all residents.

“The Command will continue to dismantle criminal networks threatening the peace and development of Abia State. We urge parents and guardians to remain vigilant, monitor their children’s movements closely, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” Isa stated.
