The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has reiterated his commitment to upholding the party’s constitution and enforcing a zero-tolerance stance on anti-party activities, signalling a new era of internal discipline and reform.
Speaking through Senator Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) representative for Katsina Central, during a Coalition Partners meeting in Kaduna over the weekend, Mark underscored the ADC’s determination to strengthen internal democracy as a foundation for tackling Nigeria’s deep-seated governance challenges.
Mark, a former Senate President, commended the leadership of the Kaduna State ADC for setting what he described as a “model standard” for other state chapters. He assured members and coalition partners that the party would guarantee a level playing field for all, stressing that “it will not be business as usual” as the ADC moves towards greater transparency and accountability.
Addressing the critical issue of membership registration, Mark promised a free, fair, and credible process, backed by safeguards to prevent manipulation and protect the party’s integrity. He argued that Nigeria’s governance failures stem largely from the erosion of internal democracy in political parties, pledging that the ADC would stand as an inclusive platform for all citizens seeking genuine change.
Kaduna State ADC Chairman, Elder Patrick Ambut, reported a surge in membership since the launch of the coalition, noting that public disillusionment with the APC has driven more Nigerians towards the ADC. He criticized the ruling party’s performance since 2015, saying:
> “Nigeria and Nigerians have never had it so bad—politically, economically, socially, and even psychologically.”
Ambut positioned the ADC-led coalition as a credible alternative capable of driving the political and socio-economic transformation the country urgently needs.
Also speaking, Salihu Lukman, a former APC chieftain now with the ADC, accused the ruling party of betraying its promises and failing to deliver good governance. He highlighted worsening poverty, rising insecurity, and hunger as evidence of the APC’s shortcomings, reinforcing the ADC’s mission to offer Nigerians a practical and principled path forward.
The ADC’s sharpened focus on constitutional fidelity, transparent processes, and inclusive politics marks a strategic push to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
