Agidigbo FM has lifted its two-year ban on songs produced under Marlian Records and will resume airing music from the label. The station’s founder, Oriyomi Hamzat, announced the decision while tendering a public apology to Nigerian singer, Naira Marley.
The ban was imposed in 2023 following the death of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, a former Marlian Records signee. At the time, Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo and other public figures had speculated about the alleged involvement of the label in circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. In reaction, Agidigbo FM halted the broadcast of all Marlian-related music as a mark of protest and solidarity.
Speaking on Tuesday, Hamzat explained that the decision then was taken in response to public concerns and the tense atmosphere within the entertainment industry. He added that the station has now reviewed the situation and found it necessary to restore Marlian Records’ music to its playlist.
However, subsequent investigations and clarifications have since vindicated Naira Marley, confirming that he had no connection with Mohbad’s death. With this development, Hamzat explained that the station reviewed its position and found it appropriate to reinstate Marlian Records’ music on its playlist.
The move marks the end of a controversy that saw one of Nigeria’s prominent radio stations distance itself from one of the country’s most popular record labels.
