Andy Byron, CEO of the New York-based tech firm Astronomer, stepped down Saturday following the circulation of a viral video that ignited allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a colleague.

The video, captured during a Coldplay concert on Wednesday in Foxborough, Massachusetts, showed Byron and a woman—later identified by online users as Kristin Cabot, Astronomer’s Chief People Officer—embracing as they appeared on the stadium’s jumbotron. The two appeared visibly startled, with Byron quickly ducking out of frame and Cabot covering her face. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked from the stage, “Uh-oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” drawing laughter from the crowd.

The footage rapidly spread across TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), racking up millions of views and spawning a wave of memes and speculation. One viral post noted the irony: “The wildest part of the Astronomer CEO cheating scandal is it involved the HR head—the very person who’s supposed to discourage office romances.” The Philadelphia Phillies’ mascots even spoofed the moment on their own jumbotron during a baseball game.

Astronomer responded by launching an internal review and later announced Byron’s resignation in a LinkedIn statement: “Our leaders are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and accountability. Recently, that standard was not met. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation.”

A supposed apology letter attributed to Byron also went viral but was later confirmed to be from a parody account. The company has not issued any further public statements regarding Cabot or clarified the nature of the relationship shown in the video.

The incident has sparked broader conversation about workplace dynamics, professional boundaries, and how quickly public moments can become viral spectacles in the digital age.
