LONDON – Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard as the club weighs midfield options ahead of a potential exit for Thomas Partey.

According to multiple reports from English outlets, the Gunners are considering the 31-year-old Denmark international as one of several midfield targets this summer. Nørgaard, who has been a key figure for Brentford since joining in 2019, is admired by Arsenal’s recruitment team for his ball-winning ability, tactical intelligence, and leadership qualities.

This development comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, whose contract with Arsenal is due to expire in just five days. Though the North London club has reportedly offered new terms, no agreement has yet been reached. Partey’s fitness concerns and wage demands have raised questions about whether he will remain at the Emirates beyond this summer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be seeking depth and defensive stability in midfield as the club prepares for another title challenge and Champions League campaign. With Partey’s future hanging in the balance, Nørgaard has emerged as a viable option thanks to his Premier League experience and consistent performances.

Despite signing a contract extension with Brentford earlier this year that runs until 2027, Nørgaard could be lured by the opportunity to compete at the top level in Europe with Arsenal. However, Brentford are expected to demand a substantial fee for their club captain.

The Gunners have also been linked with Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi and Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand as part of a wider midfield reshuffle. With the transfer window now open and Partey’s contract deadline looming, Arsenal are expected to step up their pursuit of potential reinforcements in the coming days.
