Beijing Condemns External Interference and Pledges Support for President Bola Tinubu’s Administration

China has firmly rejected foreign interference in Nigeria following recent threats from the United States, reiterating its support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed concerns stemming from US President Donald Trump’s recent statements regarding Nigeria. Trump had reportedly labeled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing the alleged existential threat to Christians in the country. He further warned that the US might suspend all aid and potentially take military action if the Nigerian government does not address the situation.

Reacting to these claims, Ning emphasized China’s strong partnership with Nigeria, stating, “As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on a development path suited to its national conditions. China firmly opposes any country using religion or human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs or threatening them with sanctions and force.”

The statement underscores China’s commitment to Nigeria’s sovereignty and highlights the country’s growing role as a key strategic partner in Africa, especially amid rising international scrutiny over Nigeria’s internal affairs.
