Breaking: Colombian Presidential Candidate Miguel Uribe Shot In The Head During Election Campaign
A 39-year-old Colombian senator and presidential candidate under the umbrella of Centro Democrático Party ( CDP ), simply identified as Miguel Uribe Turbay, has been shot and critically wounded in an assassination attempt during election campaign.
According to information, the incident occurred at about 6:30 PM. on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
It was noted that the presidential candidate was shot in the neck, head, and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
The presidential candidate was said to be a prominent conservative voice and a close ally to the Colombian former president Alvaro Uribe and also a strong critic of the current government of President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
The attack on Miguel sent shockwaves across Colombia, as citizens condemned the attempt assassination, possibly involvement of opposition parties or criminal syndicates.
The event, which reignited fears over the safety of public figures and the fragility of the Colombian democratic process, has been condemned by the leaders from other political parties and called for calm, unity and respect for democratic values.
However, as at the time of this report, no official statement has been made by the government, and there has been no arrest yet as investigators are pursuing several lines of inquiry to affirmed the situations surrounding the assassination.
