Court Halts Abure-Led Faction’s Congress Plans, Interim Leadership Enforces Order and Alerts Police, INEC.
The Labour Party’s interim leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman has secured a court order barring the faction led by Barrister Julius Abure from proceeding with its scheduled nationwide congresses.
In a late Monday statement from Abuja, Interim National Publicity Secretary Ife Salako revealed that the Abia State High Court in Isiala Ngwa issued an interim injunction on November 26, 2025, in Suit No. HIN/47/2025—filed by Hon. Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti. The order explicitly restrains Abure, his purported National Working Committee, and their agents from organizing or conducting any ward, LGA, or state congresses.
“These planned congresses are purported, unlawful, and already declared null and void by a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement declared, urging party members nationwide to ignore the Abure-led activities.
Asserting its authority, the Usman-led committee called on the Inspector-General of Police to arrest and prosecute anyone participating in what it labeled “illegitimate congresses,” reportedly set for December 2, 4, or 6, 2025.
It also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to steer clear of the restrained faction’s events, promising to soon provide the electoral body with the party’s authentic timetable.
The interim leadership reassured members that lawful congresses under its supervision will begin shortly, with details to be announced officially.
