Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to provide effective leadership and meaningful governance.

In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, Melaye announced his immediate exit from all party activities. The letter was made public via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels,” Melaye wrote, describing his decision as necessary due to the PDP’s failure to rise to the nation’s challenges.

He said the party has lost the strength and vision needed to rescue Nigeria from its deepening political and governance crises.

“After thorough reflection on the current state and direction of the party, I can no longer in good conscience continue to be part of it or support its agenda,” he added.

Melaye, who contested as the PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State in 2023, requested that his resignation be accepted as a total withdrawal from the party’s structures at all levels.

Concluding his letter, he expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the PDP’s platform during his years of membership.
