A heated online exchange has erupted between Nigerian comedian Acapella and activist Omoyele Sowore following controversial statements made by the former presidential candidate regarding Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore launched scathing attacks on several Nigerian political figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi. While denying involvement in alleged criminal and corrupt acts, Sowore made pointed references to these leaders:

“I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing hroin and ccaine in Chicago. I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry,” Sowore wrote.

But it was his claim about Peter Obi that sparked a major backlash.

“I did not join Peter Obi at the Tin Can Ports while he cleared goods for Sani Abacha when the same Abacha was dismantling Nigeria brick by brick.”

The allegation drew immediate criticism from Acapella, who accused Sowore of distorting facts and spreading misinformation about Obi’s past. Responding directly on X, the comedian slammed Sowore:

“First off, Peter never worked for the Abacha government, you lying unrepentant wanna-be hero.”

Acapella clarified that Obi’s activity at the Tin Can Port during the Abacha era was a temporary civic effort to help decongest the ports—not a formal role within the regime.

“Obi never received any salary for the few months he helped decongest the port, neither was he documented as an official appointee of the Abacha government,” Acapella added.

The comedian went further, accusing Sowore of hypocrisy, citing his past support for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015:

“Whatever you didn’t do isn’t my concern. The mere fact that you were the chief propagandist in bringing in that disaster, Buhari, into power in 2015, you have no morals to point out who is corrupt and who isn’t.”

Social Media Reactions: The clash triggered a wave of reactions across social media. Many users sided with Acapella, accusing Sowore of using activism as a tool for personal relevance.

@theoladayo wrote: “Sowore has turned activism into clout chasing. You can’t keep throwing everyone under the bus just to stay relevant.”

@MsToria4Real added: “Thank you Acapella for saying the truth! Sowore is just bitter that Peter Obi is respected and he isn’t.”

@Chukwudi_Uzoma commented: “When you helped bring Buhari to power and still have the audacity to talk about corruption, your credibility is already in the mud.”

@Dre_visionary said: “I used to respect Sowore but this his anti-everyone campaign is now giving jealousy. What did Peter Obi do to him?”

However, some X users defended Sowore’s stance.

@truthSayer9 stated: “Whether you like it or not, Sowore is exposing all of them. That’s the job of an activist. Obi is not a saint either.”

@RealTalkNaija noted: “You people are quick to defend Obi, but nobody wants to look into these allegations. Let’s face the facts too.”
