The Federal High Court in Kaduna has issued an order restraining Shema Petroleum Ltd from conducting business under its name pending the hearing and determination of a motion filed by Sirajo Abubakar Jalli-Gambo and Suleiman Sagir.

The order, issued on July 22, 2025, by Hon. Justice R M. Aikawa, follows a motion exparte filed by the plaintiffs, who are seeking to restrain the company from operating under its name.

The plaintiffs, represented by M.S. Katu (SAN), filed a 29-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion, which included exhibits and a written address. The court, after reviewing the affidavit and written address, granted the order.

The court also issued a Form 48, warning the Managing Director of Shema Petroleum, Alhaji. Nagogo Mamman, that failure to comply with the order would amount to contempt of court, punishable by imprisonment.

The court’s decision has significant implications for Shema Petroleum, which is a prominent player in the oil and gas industry. The company’s ability to operate under its name has been restricted, pending the outcome of the motion.

The case will proceed to the hearing and determination of the motion on notice, where the plaintiffs will seek to make the injunction permanent. The outcome of the case will depend on the arguments presented by both parties and the court’s interpretation of the law.

The court’s decision may have far-reaching implications for the oil and gas industry, particularly in terms of business operations and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Companies operating in the industry would need to take note of the court’s order and ensure that they are in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
