Authorities arrest 56-year-old man after suspicious death; forensic experts confirm smothering as cause of death

CUREPIPE – The discovery of a 52-year-old woman’s lifeless body on Saturday morning in a Curepipe residence has triggered a full-scale criminal investigation. A 56-year-old man, reportedly the last person to see her alive, has been arrested and remains in police custody for questioning.

According to initial police reports, the woman was at the home of the 56-year-old nurse when the incident occurred. The suspect told authorities that he found her unresponsive upon waking.

At the scene, law enforcement officers noted suspicious marks around the victim’s neck, prompting immediate investigative action. The body was subsequently transported to the Victoria Hospital morgue for a forensic autopsy. Drs. Sunasee and Jankee Prasad, forensic specialists, determined that the cause of death was smothering.

Authorities have indicated that foul play is strongly suspected, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Police continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses as part of the inquiry.
