The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after a swift screening session on Thursday.

Doro’s screening lasted less than 30 minutes, with lawmakers unanimously expressing confidence in his competence, leadership record, and vision for national development. He was asked to “take a bow and go,” a gesture signaling his approval and confirmation.

A Plateau-born technocrat, Doro becomes the third minister from his state in the current administration. Upon confirmation, he pledged to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability in managing Nigeria’s humanitarian and developmental programs.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” Doro stated during his screening.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier sent Doro’s nomination letter to the Senate in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the correspondence during plenary before referring it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.

Doro’s nomination follows the elevation of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, former minister, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

With Senate confirmation completed, Dr. Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the next official ceremony.
