Convicted Accomplices Jailed 14 Years as Hunt Intensifies for Vanished Ex-Petroleum Official
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Abdul Afeez Olarenwaju Olabisi, a former executive of the defunct Fargo Petroleum and Gas Limited, wanted for allegedly defrauding the Nigerian government of nearly ₦1 billion in fraudulent fuel subsidy claims.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, the anti-graft agency revealed that Olabisi absconded after being granted bail while standing trial before the Lagos State High Court.
Olabisi, 44, is accused of orchestrating a bogus oil subsidy scheme that siphoned ₦976,653,110.28 from public coffers. His co-defendants, Mamman Nasir Ali and Christian Taylor, were convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison on May 27, 2025, for their roles in the scam.
“Abdul Afeez Olarenwaju Olabisi… is wanted for allegedly defrauding the federal government of Nigeria in bogus oil subsidy claims,” the EFCC said, urging the public to assist with information about his whereabouts.
The fugitive hails from Kwara State and is fluent in Yoruba, Hausa, and English. His last known address is 192 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The EFCC is appealing to the public to report any leads to its offices nationwide, including those in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and other major cities.
The case adds to Nigeria’s long-running battle against corruption in the oil sector, where fraudulent subsidy payments have drained billions from the national treasury over the years.
