Ekiti governorship aspirant accuses PDP leaders of working for APC, says party lacks direction and cohesion

Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a frontline governorship hopeful in Ekiti State, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing poor leadership, internal wrangling, and alleged sabotage from within the party’s ranks.

In a statement issued by his media office in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Fayose explained that the leadership of the PDP had lost direction, making it impossible for genuine stakeholders to continue their political journey under its platform.

According to him, the endless crises within the party—particularly at the national level—have rendered it incapable of providing a credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am using this occasion to formally announce my decision and those of my teeming supporters to resign our membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Though the decision was difficult, we are compelled to take it, given the state of affairs within the party,” Fayose declared.

He alleged that the PDP’s National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary were working in tandem with the APC-led Federal Government, a development he described as detrimental to the survival of the party.

Fayose further accused former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, of undermining the unity of the PDP in the state rather than serving as a rallying point for its members.

He stressed that the series of betrayals, coupled with the disarray within the party’s hierarchy, had left him and his supporters with no choice but to seek a new political direction.
