Explosion: Two Killed, Four Injured in Blast at Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria Factory
Panic grips Kaduna communities as explosion at DICON factory leaves two dead, four others hospitalized; military launches investigation into cause of blast.
Tragedy struck on Saturday, September 20, 2025, when an explosion occurred at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in the Kakuri Industrial area of Kaduna South Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The incident, which happened around 10 a.m., claimed the lives of two persons and left four others critically injured. Residents in Kaduna South and neighboring Chikun Local Government reported hearing a loud blast that sent shockwaves through the communities.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that emergency responders and security personnel quickly mobilized to the scene. The injured victims were initially rushed to St. Gerard’s Catholic Hospital, Kakuri, before being transferred by military ambulance to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital for advanced treatment.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of the explosion, but preliminary investigations are underway. Security has also been tightened around the area to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.
The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), established in 1964, is Nigeria’s primary defense manufacturing outfit, producing arms, ammunition, and other military equipment for the country’s armed forces.
Residents have expressed fear over the incident, calling for stricter safety protocols in military production facilities located close to civilian settlements.
