Meta pledges continued action against fake profiles, misinformation, and policy violations
Facebook has announced the deletion of over 10 million accounts as part of a large-scale enforcement operation aimed at curbing fake users, misinformation, and other violations of its community standards.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 17, 2025, the platform’s parent company, Meta, said the move is part of an ongoing effort to maintain integrity across its network.
“This is not a one-time effort. We are committed to removing inauthentic behavior, fake accounts, and content that violates our policies,” a Meta spokesperson said.
According to Meta, the removed accounts were involved in a range of prohibited activities, including impersonation, spam, coordinated inauthentic behavior, hate speech, and the dissemination of false information.
The company has faced mounting pressure in recent years to do more in tackling the spread of harmful content online, especially as global elections approach and the risk of digital manipulation increases.
Facebook users have been urged to ensure their accounts are verified and compliant with platform policies, as further account removals are expected in the weeks ahead.
