Facebook Removes Sowore’s Account Over Alleged Blackmailing of Former Presidential Candidate Peter Obi
Following a heat moment online between the followers of Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the publisher’s facebook account, has been shutdown.
Meta, the owner of the famous social media platform, Facebook has removed the account of Nigerian publisher and politician Omoyele Sowore.
Recall that Sahara Reporters has earlier published a series of allegations against Nigerian politician Peter Obi, including saying Peter Obi went to Rome, Italy, to beg Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over issues in one of Nigerian bank.
Reacting to the false claims by Sahara Reporters owned by Sowore, Peter Obi took to his social media pages on Thursday, May 22, 2025, and refuted the claims.
“It’s obvious that the biggest business for blackmailers now is talking about Peter Obi from every negative perspective. Even my solemn spiritual trip to Rome has been twisted into yet another blackmail campaign by merchants paid ostensibly to propagate anything negative against Obi- Peter Obi stated
“One such individual, whose entire life revolves around blackmail, falsely claimed that I went to Rome to have a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding a purported ₦225 billion debt crisis involving Fidelity Bank. These claims are not only baseless, malicious, but entirely false.
“The self-proclaimed “blackmailer-in-chief” and others who thrive on spreading pain and falsehoods have also claimed that I own Fidelity Bank. For the record, I do not. Peter Obi added.
Social media get into buzz after the refuted claims by Obi, which makes many Nigerians referred to Omoyele Sowore as “Blackmailer-in-chief”
It was noted that trouble started after 2023 presidential election when Peter Obi of Labour Party, LP, got votes of over 6 million, and Omoyele Sowore of Africa Action Congress, AAC , got votes of 14,000.
Things turned around when Omoyele Sowore claimed that his Facebook account had been deactivated after several reports by Peter Obi supporters.
“Some members of the packaged fraud and Money Launderer-in-Chief just got my @Facebook account disabled. Please don’t worry; no fraudster will ever succeed in our time. It is not a threat but a commitment! Sowore stated on his Twitter account.
However, a quick check by our correspondent shows that Sowore’s Facebook account can’t be found.
