Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has firmly denied claims by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that both men initiated discussions to form an opposition coalition in Nigeria.
Amaechi, speaking during an X Space discussion on Saturday, had alleged that he and Fayemi began talks to establish a new political party before later widening the coalition to involve other prominent politicians.
In a swift rebuttal issued on Sunday through his media aide, Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi dismissed the statement as “false and misleading,” stressing that he remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State.
“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit,” the statement read. “It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted. We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis.”
Sajoh further noted that Fayemi has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to the APC in various public forums, actively contributing to resolving internal party challenges and promoting its progressive vision for Nigeria.
“Nothing has changed,” the statement concluded, reinforcing Fayemi’s stance that he has no involvement in any opposition coalition moves and remains firmly aligned with the ruling party.
