The suspects were reportedly nabbed by UAE authorities after a coordinated robbery operation in Sharjah, foiling their alleged plan to return to Nigeria with millions in stolen cash.
In a major international crime bust, five Nigerian nationals have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery operation in Dubai.
According to reports, the suspects were apprehended in the Sharjah area of Dubai with a total of Dh2.3 million (approximately ₦1.9 billion) believed to have been stolen during the heist.
The individuals, identified as Chimuanya Emmanuel Ozoh, Benjamin Nwachukwu Ajah, Kingsley Ikenna Ngoka, Tochukwu Leonard Alisi, and Chile Micah Ndunagu, were said to have traveled from Nigeria to Dubai purportedly for what authorities described as an “armed robbery pilgrimage.”
Authorities in the UAE disclosed that the swift intervention of security forces led to the recovery of the stolen cash and the arrest of the suspects before they could flee the country.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects are linked to any transnational criminal networks operating between Nigeria and the Middle East. The Nigerian authorities are expected to liaise with their UAE counterparts for further legal action.
