Ibadan, Nigeria- A deadly road crash along the Soka axis of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway claimed the lives of four people on Tuesday, leaving several others injured in one of the worst traffic accidents in the area this year.
The fatal accident involved four trailers, four commercial Micra cars, and a Toyota Camry. According to eyewitness accounts, the chain collision began when a trailer collided with another trailer that was attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station near the Soka junction. The impact caused three other trailers traveling behind to crash into the vehicles ahead, plowing into multiple cars, including four Micra taxis and a Camry sedan.
One of the Micra vehicles was completely crushed in the wreckage, resulting in the deaths of the driver and three passengers. Among the victims was a woman who had just boarded the taxi with her husband at Sanyo, a nearby bus stop. While she died instantly, her husband, seated in the front seat, survived with minor injuries.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) responded swiftly to the scene, evacuating the deceased and transporting the injured to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Cleanup and traffic diversion efforts followed as authorities cleared the wreckage to restore movement along the busy expressway.
This incident brings the number of fatal accidents recorded in the Soka area to six in 2025 alone, raising fresh concerns about road safety and enforcement along one of Nigeria’s most heavily trafficked highways.
