General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has rejected what he described as “subtle agitations” over his successor, insisting that only God—not church members—will determine the next leader of the ministry.
Speaking at a recent programme in Lagos, the 84-year-old cleric criticised attempts to influence the succession process or pressure him to step aside.
“No one can control me or force my hand on this matter,” Kumuyi said. “God, not members, will choose the next leader of Deeper Life. My focus remains on fulfilling the divine mandate for this ministry.”
His comments follow growing speculation within the church about leadership transition after more than five decades at the helm. Although sources say Kumuyi remains healthy and active, some members have been calling for clarity on succession to ensure continuity.
Observers note that succession debates are common in Nigeria’s large Pentecostal churches, where leadership carries significant influence and resources. Kumuyi urged members to prioritise unity and spiritual growth, warning against divisive campaigns.
Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Lagos, Deeper Life Bible Church has millions of members worldwide, along with schools, charities, and media operations. No timeline has been set for any leadership transition.
