Google Launches One-Year Free AI Pro Subscription for Nigerian and African Students
Tech giant expands digital empowerment across eight African countries with free one-year access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and advanced AI research tools.
Google has unveiled a major educational initiative offering free one-year subscriptions to its Google AI Pro plan for college students in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.
As part of Google’s broader investments in Africa’s digital transformation, the program will provide students with access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, along with advanced AI-powered research tools and productivity features. These resources are designed to support academic work such as assignments, research projects, and reports, enhancing both learning and innovation.
According to Google, the initiative aims to equip Africa’s youth with world-class digital skills, preparing them to thrive in the AI-driven global economy. The move also complements the company’s ongoing investments in digital infrastructure, internet connectivity, and technology training across the continent.
Industry experts believe this program could accelerate Africa’s journey toward becoming a global hub for digital innovation, by giving millions of young people access to the same cutting-edge technology available in advanced economies.
