Abia Governor Advocates for Political Resolution Following High-Level Presidential Engagement and Prison Visit

In a significant political development, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The high-level discussion is centrally focused on advancing efforts to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This presidential engagement follows Governor Otti’s recent direct visit to Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Center. The delegation to the facility included Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel; the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma; and officials from the Sokoto State Government.

Governor Otti has persistently framed the resolution of Kanu’s case as a critical priority for his administration, advocating for a political and diplomatic solution. In a statement delivered through his media aide after the Sokoto visit, Otti outlined a determined, multi-pronged approach.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to pursue his appeal in court, I am happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed political strategy until his freedom is secured,” the Governor stated. He further emphasized that his administration is “pursuing a coordinated strategy to secure Kanu’s freedom through all lawful channels.”

This meeting with President Tinubu represents a pivotal step in that coordinated strategy, elevating the discourse on Kanu’s detention to the highest executive level and signaling a sustained push for a political resolution to the protracted legal saga.
