Activist Reveals Private Meeting with Former Defence Chief: A Surprising Appeal for Help in National Security Investigation

Nigerian activist Verydarkman has provided a detailed account of his unexpected encounter with former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, following General Musa’s nomination as Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu.

The activist described being approached on June 19th. “Around 10 AM, I was told the Army was looking for me,” he said. “I panicked—what trouble could I have with the Army? I thought to myself, ‘I’ve criticized Christopher Musa online, but if they wanted to harm me, they would have already.’ So I agreed to go.”

He was taken to the military base in Asokoro. “When they opened the door, I saw Christopher Musa himself. I recognized him immediately as the person I had criticized online.”

The encounter took a surprising turn. After asking others to leave, General Musa reportedly told the activist, “I need your help.” When Verydarkman asked with what, the former Defence Chief explained, “You need to tell me everything you noticed when you went to Yelwata. You were the first person with a camera there. People were scared to go. Tell me what you saw and what information you gathered.”

According to Verydarkman, after he shared his observations, Musa responded, “Thank you very much. We’ll take it up from here. Please, whatever information you have, you should let me know.” The two then took a photograph together on June 20th, 2025.

Reflecting on the experience amidst news of Musa’s ministerial nomination, the activist added, “When I heard he was removed as Chief of Defence Staff, I shook my head. That man was looking for solutions. For the Chief of Defence Staff to call me, look me in the eyes, and say ‘I need your help’—that’s someone not ashamed to get information from anywhere. There was no pride whatsoever.”

This account emerges as General Christopher Musa transitions from military leadership to a potential political role, highlighting an unusual instance of direct outreach by high-level security leadership to a civilian critic for ground-level intelligence.
