Horror in Gaza: At Least 59 Killed as Israeli Tanks Open Fire on Civilians Seeking Aid
In one of the deadliest incidents since the escalation of violence in Gaza, at least 59 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday when Israeli tanks reportedly opened fire on a crowd gathered around aid trucks in Khan Younis, according to local medical sources.
The bloodshed unfolded as desperate residents—many of whom have been enduring months of siege, displacement, and acute food shortages—tried to access humanitarian aid. Graphic videos circulating on social media show lifeless bodies strewn across a street in southern Gaza, some severely mutilated, underscoring the harrowing conditions on the ground.
The Israeli military, which has been engaged in a protracted war with Hamas-led militants since October 2023, confirmed that its forces had fired in the area but claimed it was still investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The tragedy marks yet another grim chapter in the Gaza conflict, which has pushed the enclave into a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Aid agencies have warned repeatedly of famine-like conditions as civilians are caught in the crossfire and access to food, water, and medical assistance remains severely limited.
As images of the aftermath sparked global outrage, calls intensified for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access to the besieged population. The latest deaths further highlight the urgent need for diplomatic intervention and accountability as the war enters its ninth month.
