At least four confirmed dead, including a 13-year-old boy, as armed men storm snooker spot in Onireke

Residents of Ojo Barracks, Lagos, were thrown into panic on Saturday October 4, 2025, night after gunmen dressed in Ankara attire stormed a snooker spot at Onireke, shooting indiscriminately with what appeared to be AK-47 rifles.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers’ firearm reportedly jammed at one point, giving some people the chance to flee before more gunfire erupted alongside shouts of “Haba-Kryer.”

Tragically, over six people were shot, including a 13-year-old boy and two street food vendors known as Abokis who sold Indomie. At least four people have been confirmed dead, one of whom died instantly at the scene.

Residents who spoke to Daily Observer dismissed initial rumors of a cult clash, noting that the last such conflict in the area occurred back in 2018, between the Aye and Vikings groups — not Eiye.

Further findings by Daily Observer revealed that the latest attack was not cult-related but rather a targeted community assault linked to a traditional rulership dispute. According to sources, Eiye cult members were allegedly mobilized to destabilize the area amid ongoing tension over the Baale’s (traditional ruler’s) legitimacy.

Community members explained that the conflict stems from resistance to the Baale’s installation by some indigenes. The Baale’s brother, said to be affiliated with the Aye cult, allegedly used cultists to intimidate dissenters. In retaliation, a local landholder known as SK, who opposed the Baale, reportedly allied with Okanlomo (aka Shina), a well-known street figure said to have strong ties with Eiye members.

While both factions allegedly used rival cult groups for dominance, the victims of the latest shooting were innocent civilians, believed to have been deliberately targeted to create fear and chaos.

It was noted that the names of key figures allegedly involved in the orchestrated violence have been identified and citizens urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace to Ojo Barracks and surrounding communities.
