Mauritius immigration system questioned after alleged illegal re-entry of deported Nigerian contractor.
A Nigerian work contractor based in Mauritius, Gboyega Paul Ojo, popularly known as Fortunate, has again come under scrutiny following allegations that he re-entered the country using a different passport after previously being declared wanted by the Mauritius police.
Daily Observer had earlier reported that Ojo was notorious for recruiting undocumented workers, subjecting them to exploitative conditions without pay, and using intimidation to silence complaints. Instead of addressing these allegations, he allegedly resorted to threatening the publisher of the media outlet and demanding the removal of the reports.
According to a memo sighted by Daily Observer and signed by Mr. Olalekan Aina, President of the Yoruba Association in Mauritius, Ojo was once wanted in connection with multiple scam allegations and is suspected to have returned under a false identity.
The memo revealed that on 29 December 2022, the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis, Mauritius, canceled Ojo’s residence permit at the request of his school, the Malaysia Consortium for Education Mauritius (MCEM). The decision, confirmed by Sub-Inspector R. Kooshna, Director-General of Immigration, instructed that Ojo be informed to leave the country immediately.

In a statement, Mr. Aina expressed concern over Ojo’s alleged illegal re-entry, warning that such actions undermine the integrity of Mauritius’ immigration system and pose risks to public safety.
Foreign workers in Mauritius have been advised to avoid engaging with the contractor.
