The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of Anas al-Sharif, a Hamas operative in Gaza City who allegedly posed as a journalist for Al Jazeera while serving as a senior commander within the militant group.
According to the IDF, al-Sharif directed rocket fire toward Israeli civilian areas and military positions. Intelligence reports and documents recovered in Gaza reportedly confirmed his operational role within Hamas, despite public denials of militant activity from Al Jazeera.
The military emphasized that the evidence, both from prior intelligence assessments and newly obtained materials, demonstrates al-Sharif’s direct involvement in terror operations. The IDF reiterated its position that individuals engaged in militant activity remain legitimate targets, even if they attempt to conceal their identities behind press credentials.
