The Imo State Police Command has arrested and charged a 32-year-old clergyman, Pastor Ikenna Emmanuel, along with his alleged accomplice, Franklin Chizoba, over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman under the pretext of offering spiritual prayers for her.
Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye, in a statement issued Thursday in Owerri, said the incident took place on June 30. Emmanuel, who hails from Umuobom in Ideato-South Local Government Area and leads the Authentic Power City Church, allegedly conspired with Chizoba to lure the victim to his residence.
Investigations revealed that the pastor allegedly served the young woman a drink laced with drugs, rendering her dizzy and disoriented. Both suspects then allegedly took turns sexually assaulting her.
The matter was reported to the police, and operatives from the Orlu Division swiftly apprehended the suspects. During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to the crime and further admitted to engaging in homosexual activities, according to Okoye.
Following their arraignment on August 12, the suspects were remanded in the Owerri Correctional Facility while awaiting trial. Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving persons in positions of trust.
