There was drama at one of the Nigerian banks, FCMB, on 30th June 2025, when an unidentified man attempted to carry out a covert cyberattack by hiding inside the bank’s ceiling overnight.

According to a staff member, the suspect had entered the bank during regular business hours under the guise of being a customer. Rather than conducting any banking transactions, he reportedly made his way to the restroom, locked the door, and climbed into the ceiling.

“He waited until all staff had closed for the day,” the source said. “Then he came down and attempted to hack into the bank’s systems. He also locked himself inside the premises.”

However, his plan was thwarted the next morning when bank staff arrived and noticed that the main door had been locked from the inside — an unusual occurrence. After forcing the door open, they were stunned to discover someone hiding above the ceiling panels.

“The moment we switched on our computers, the system displayed a message: ‘Restarting, click OK to accept,’” the source added, suggesting that the intruder may have attempted to install malicious software or interfere with internal systems.

Security officials were promptly alerted, and the suspect was reportedly apprehended. It remains unclear what specific data or systems the intruder was targeting, but a full investigation is now underway.

FCMB is yet to release an official statement, but internal sources confirm that no funds were lost and customer data appears to be intact.
