Israel Accepts Trump-Brokered Ceasefire Deal as Iran Demands End to Aggression

TEL AVIV/TEHRAN – In a significant diplomatic development, Israel has agreed to a ceasefire proposal put forward by former U.S. President Donald Trump, following a deadly exchange of missile attacks with Iran. The announcement was confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an official statement late Monday night.

Netanyahu said the Israeli government would abide by the terms of the truce, which Trump described as “now in effect,” urging both sides to avoid further escalation. The ceasefire follows a wave of missile strikes launched by Iran that left at least four civilians dead in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba.

However, the Iranian response to the ceasefire appears more cautious. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran has not formally agreed to any truce. He added that Iran would only consider halting its attacks if Israel ceases what it calls “illegal aggression” by 4:00 a.m. local time (00:30 GMT).

Tensions surged earlier on Monday after Iran fired a barrage of missiles at a U.S. military base in Qatar. The move was in retaliation for a series of American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities a day prior. While no American casualties were immediately reported, the Pentagon confirmed structural damage at the base.

Since hostilities intensified on June 13, Iranian authorities claim over 400 people have been killed, including at least 13 children, with more than 3,000 others wounded in Israeli airstrikes. On the Israeli side, officials report at least 24 deaths resulting from Iranian missile attacks.

The Trump-brokered ceasefire marks the most concrete effort yet to de-escalate a rapidly expanding conflict that has drawn in multiple nations and rattled the region. International observers are closely monitoring the hours ahead to see if the fragile truce holds or breaks under pressure.
