A shocking case of suspected medical negligence has emerged at Jeetoo Hospital, Mauritius after a broken needle was found lodged in the back of a baby girl.
The discovery was made on the morning of Saturday, June 21, when a nurse at the hospital was preparing to bathe the infant. During the routine care, the nurse noticed the foreign object and immediately alerted the child’s mother.
Following the alarming find, the baby was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she underwent emergency surgery to have the needle safely extracted.
The infant’s mother, suspecting medical malpractice, reported the incident to the hospital centre police station. In response, police authorities have launched an investigation, and the broken needle has been handed over as evidence.
Hospital officials have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, while the investigation continues to determine how the needle ended up in the child’s body.
