Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has alleged that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan proposed appointing Peter Obi as Coordinating Minister of the Economy in exchange for his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and support for Jonathan’s candidacy.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Kachikwu claimed that Northern political power brokers are backing Jonathan’s return to the contest as part of a strategy to weaken the South’s political standing.

“In order to weaken the South, they have now drafted former President Jonathan into the race, and he is alleged to be offering Peter Obi the position of Coordinating Minister of the Economy in return for his support,” Kachikwu said.

He further alleged that Obi was told his prospects of winning Northern votes were limited due to his Igbo heritage, and that he should instead consider becoming Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.
