Jota’s Family to Receive Full Contractual Earnings from Liverpool Until 2027
Liverpool Football Club has pledged to pay the full remainder of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family following the striker’s tragic death in a car accident. The Portuguese international died alongside his brother, André, in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, in Spain. He was 28 years old.
Jota, who signed a five-year contract extension with Liverpool in 2022, was earning £140,000 per week—an annual salary of approximately £7.2 million. With two years remaining on the deal, the club is expected to pay around £14.5 million to his family as a gesture of support.
The decision underlines Liverpool’s commitment to honouring Jota’s legacy and supporting his loved ones during this deeply painful time.
The father of three had only recently married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, just two weeks before the fatal crash.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and made 182 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. He played a key role in the club’s recent successes, including last season’s Premier League title, as well as previous triumphs in the FA Cup and League Cup.
His sudden death has left the football world in mourning, with tributes pouring in from teammates, fans, and clubs across Europe.
