The African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition has announced a last-minute change of venue for its official unveiling ceremony after the original location, Wells Carlton Hotel in Abuja, abruptly cancelled the reservation.
According to a statement by the ADC’s Deputy National Secretary, Nkem Ukandu, the event will now be held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday. Ukandu urged members of the National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), Board of Trustees (BoT), and other critical stakeholders to attend, noting that attendance remains self-sponsored.
The Wells Carlton Hotel reportedly cited an “internal compliance matter” as the reason for the late cancellation and apologized for the disruption. However, the abrupt decision just hours before the event has sparked criticism and suspicions of political interference, with opposition figures alleging pressure from elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The unveiling marks a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s political landscape, as the ADC is positioning itself as the nucleus of a new opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections. The coalition is believed to have the backing of major political heavyweights including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Nasir El-Rufai.
