The Agunechemba Vigilante Group in Anambra State has dismissed eight of its operatives following their alleged involvement in the assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified as Miss Jennifer Elobor.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a checkpoint where the dismissed vigilante officers allegedly harassed and physically attacked the corps member. The disturbing episode, which was captured in part and circulated online, sparked outrage among Nigerians and drew widespread condemnation on social media platforms.
In response to the backlash, the leadership of the Agunechemba Vigilante Outfit announced the immediate dismissal of the implicated officers and confirmed that they have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation and possible prosecution.
The group also reiterated its commitment to discipline and accountability, stressing that such misconduct does not represent its values or the purpose for which it was established—namely, to protect communities and support law enforcement in maintaining security.
