Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration reintroduces mass wedding programme to support widows, divorcees, and low-income couples, with compulsory medical and background screenings.

The Kano State Government has directed the State Hisba Board to commence preparations for the mass wedding of at least 2,000 couples across the state as part of its renewed social welfare initiative.

Deputy Commander-General of the Hisba Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed the development on Thursday, saying arrangements are underway to ensure a smooth and well-organized ceremony.

“We are planning to conduct a mass wedding of another batch of 2,000 couples as directed by the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,” Aminudeen said.

Although the date for the ceremony has not been announced, Aminudeen explained that the process involves several mandatory steps, including registration and comprehensive medical screening for all intending couples.

According to him, all participants are required to undergo tests for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, genotype compatibility, and drug use, among others, before being cleared to participate.

“The medical screening is compulsory. Anyone who fails to undergo the screening will be automatically disqualified,” he added.

Governor Yusuf’s administration revived the mass wedding programme to assist widows, divorcees, and unmarried women from low-income backgrounds who cannot afford the costs of marriage. The initiative also aims to reduce social problems such as prostitution and other vices linked to financial hardship and delayed marriage.

Through this programme, the state government hopes to strengthen family values, promote moral conduct, and provide social stability across Kano communities.
