NEW YORK — A man was injured after he entered an MRI room without authorization while wearing a metal chain and was forcefully pulled into the active machine, New York police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at a medical imaging facility in the city when the man, whose identity has not been released, bypassed safety protocols and stepped into the MRI suite during an ongoing scan. Authorities say he was wearing a metal chain around his neck, which was instantly attracted to the powerful magnetic field of the machine.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and the man was transported to a hospital for treatment. Details about the extent of his injuries remain undisclosed, but officials confirmed he survived the incident.

“This could have ended far worse,” a responding officer said. “MRI machines generate extremely strong magnetic fields. Any metallic object, especially something worn on the body, poses a serious risk.”

MRI rooms are typically restricted to trained personnel and screened patients due to the high safety risks involved. It remains unclear how the man gained access to the secure area. The facility is cooperating with authorities, and an internal investigation has been launched.

Police say no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
