Nigerian singer May D alleges that music duo P-Square lied to Akon, claiming he was already signed to Square Records, costing him a multi-million-dollar international deal.

Nigerian singer May D has shared a shocking account of how he missed out on a major international record deal, allegedly due to interference from the famous music duo P-Square.

“Akon presented me with a $5 million record deal, but P-Square went behind my back and lied to Akon, saying I was already signed to Square Records,” May D revealed.

He accused P-Square of undermining emerging talent.

“P-Square are talent killers,” he said. “Initially, when I met P-Square, they didn’t want to sign me; they said they just wanted to help me with a feature like they did for J-Martins and Bracket. When we went to shoot the ‘Chop My Money’ video, P-Square went to America without me because they didn’t want me in the video. But Akon told them he wouldn’t show up for the shoot unless I was included. P-Square said they didn’t have money, so Akon flew me to America.”

May D recalled Akon personally reaching out to discuss a deal:

“Akon called me into his office and asked if P-Square had signed me. I said no. Akon took my contact and told me he’d bring me to America soon and sign me.”

However, the opportunity was abruptly lost after his return to Nigeria.

“As an honest guy who thought P-Square wanted to help me, I told them about Akon’s plans. Immediately after, P-Square contacted Akon and lied that they had already signed me. That’s how I lost my opportunity to be one of the greatest artists of my generation.”

He expressed deep regret:

“If I had known, I wouldn’t have told them that Akon wanted to sign me. I still cry every day because of what P-Square did to me.”

May D’s story exposes the harsh realities of the music industry, highlighting the fine line between mentorship and betrayal for upcoming artists.
