In a heartbreaking twist of fate, a baby boy has been delivered safely from a brain-dead mother, as her family prepares for their final goodbye.

Adriana Smith, a dedicated nurse and mother from Atlanta, was declared brain-dead in February following a medical emergency during her pregnancy. On Friday, her son, Chance, was born via emergency C-section. He weighed just one pound, 13 ounces.

“He’s expected to be OK. He’s just fighting,” Adriana’s mother said in an emotional statement, holding on to hope for the tiny newborn’s survival. Life support is expected to be withdrawn today, marking a solemn farewell to a woman her family describes as a fighter.

Adriana’s health crisis began earlier this year when she sought treatment at a different hospital after experiencing severe headaches. She was prescribed medication and sent home. But the next morning, she woke up gasping for air. She was rushed to Emory University Hospital, where doctors discovered blood clots in her brain. Despite intensive efforts, she was declared brain-dead soon after.

Her family has asked for prayers as they grieve the devastating loss while clinging to hope for baby Chance’s survival. The child’s birth has been described as a “miracle in the midst of heartbreak.”

Adriana leaves behind not only a newborn son but other children, who are now facing life without their mother. Her story has touched hearts across the country, highlighting both the fragility of life and the resilience of love.
