A Nigerian Islamic cleric, simply identified as Kabiru Ibrahim, has been sentenced by an Osun State Highy Court, sitting in Iwo, for killing his client, Lukman Adeleke

The cleric was sentenced to death after he was charged with conspiracy, murder and theft, contrary to Section 324, 319 (1), and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap.34, Laws of Osun State

According to a statement by the Information Officer of the Ministry of Justice, Opeyemi Bello stated that the prosecution led by Abiodun Badiora informed the court that the Islamic cleric was a spiritual consulate to the victim, Adeleke.

In the ruling of Justice Lateef Adegoke, the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Hence, the cleric was found guilty of murder and theft, and was sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing and death by hanging for murder.

It was noted that the late Adeleke had earlier informed the cleric, Ibrahim, about his plans to buy a plot of land, and the cleric urged him to bring the money for an overnight prayer before going to pay the vendor.

Tragedy immediately occurred when Adeleke went missing after his contact with the cleric for prayers.

However, upon their notice that the last person Adeleke contacted was the cleric, a search party was sent out, and the deceased family was informed that Adeleke was last seen when he visited the cleric, Ibrahim for prayers.
