Nigerian Pastor Adefarasin Grilled by Police Over Viral ‘Gun-like Object’ Video

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that popular preacher and founder of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, reported himself for questioning following the circulation of a viral video that stirred controversy online.

The now-viral clip shows the respected cleric holding what appears to be a metallic, gun-like object during a roadside interaction with another road user. The incident, which reportedly took place on a Lagos roadway, drew sharp reactions across social media, with many speculating that the object was a firearm.

Reacting swiftly, the Lagos State Police Command launched an investigation and summoned the cleric. In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the Command stated:

“No one is above the law! Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives. An investigation commenced after a video surfaced online showing the pastor holding a gun-like object while engaging with another road user, driving in an unregistered vehicle. The outcome of the investigation will be made public.”

In response to the growing public scrutiny, Pastor Adefarasin addressed the issue during a church service and on his verified social media pages. He denied claims of brandishing a weapon, insisting the object was not a firearm and that it was never pointed at anyone.

Describing the encounter as a misunderstanding, Adefarasin emphasized his commitment to non-violence and lawful conduct, urging the public not to jump to conclusions based on viral content.

The police have yet to officially identify the nature of the object in question or conclude their investigation.
