Nigerian Police Nab Man for Killing Mother Over Cassava Business Dispute

The men of the Nigerian police force, Anambra State police command, have apprehended a 49-year-old man, simply identified as Nnamdi Anyaji, for the murder of his 68-year-old mother identified as Dorothy Anyaji, over a cassava business.

According to information, the sad incident occurred on Friday, April 11, 2025, at about 2.pm. in Amudo Village Ekwulobia, Anambra State.

This incident was affirmed by the state Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, asserting that the suspect killed his mother with an age after accusing her of dishonesty about he money made from their cassava business.

Following the tragic incident, the suspect, Nnamdi, wanted to take his own life, but he was nabbed by the police operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional police station with an axe recovered at the scene.

According to Ikenga, preliminary investigation shows that conflict started when the suspect accused the deceased of being dishonest about the money gained from a cassava business. The suspect is presently in the police custody, under close monitoring to prevent further suicide attempts and will be charged to court after proper conclusion of investigation, the police spokesperson added.
