A General Court Martial sitting at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced Private Lukman Musa of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division to death by hanging after finding him guilty of culpable homicide and other criminal offenses.

The court, presided over by Brigadier General Liafis Bello, established that Musa conspired with an accomplice to lure tricycle operator Abdulrahman Isa to his residence. There, Musa struck Isa on the head, strangled him to death, and later stuffed his body in a sack, dumping it between Shira and Yala villages in Bauchi State. The soldier went on to sell the victim’s tricycle.

In addition to the murder conviction, Musa was found guilty of unlawful possession of 34 rounds of ammunition. Brigadier General Bello, in delivering judgment, described the act as “barbaric, inhumane, and a disgraceful betrayal of the Nigerian Army’s responsibility to protect its citizens.”

The General Court Martial handed Musa a death sentence by hanging for culpable homicide, two years’ imprisonment for unlawful ammunition possession, and a dismissal from the Army.

Speaking on the verdict, Major Aminu Mairuwa emphasized that the ruling underscores the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to discipline, justice, and accountability within its ranks.
